Scraping Understat and FBref to compare Expected Goals against goals actually scored for Neymar and Mbappé across the 2020–21 and 2021–22 seasons.
The gap between xG and goals is where the argument lives — finishing above your expected rate is either skill or variance, and one season rarely tells you which.
